Moho is now Anime Studio and comes in two flavours: normal ($49.99) which seems to lack the ability to export static images, making it unusable for game development, and Pro ($199.99).
Wintermute Engine is no longer actively developed.
The original sources are archived on GitHub: wintermute-engine and wmelite. The runtime is now integrated into ScummVM, which runs Wintermute games on current systems.

Hi Muties,
I've found an interisting alternative to Photopshop and the Gimp, you'd never guess, what it's called. Gimpshop. No, I'm not kidding. Someone tried to change the quite "unusual" GUI of the Gimp into a Photoshop alike one. Well it does'nt fix the terrible CMYK mode of the Gimp, so it's still not the first choice, when it comes to create printed media, but it's really worth the look, if you're into web- game etc-design.
Have a look at http://gimpshopdotnet.blogspot.com/ and have fun.
In comparison to the quite unstable Pixel32, the chaotic Gimp gui and the very expensive Photoshop, Gimpshop really makes some points. (No I'm not involved in the creation of this tool in any way).
Maybe our beloved moderator could put this onto the list on the first site of this thread....

A very minor update:
WordPress - free blog software
I also bolded some entries which indicate my personal favorites or software that IMHO may be worth taking a look at (first).

I posted what I consider a major update. I corrected some links that had changed, deleted dead links, added quite a few new entries, as well as a few more bolded ones.
Another good program is GraphicsGale. It's more aimed at pixeling then something like PS, but has a ton of features. It's great for making animated sprites.
The free version has-
Edit Animation Graphic (Real-time preview, Multiple layers, Onion skin...)
Image Browse
Batch Conversion
Acquire Image from TWAIN
Save and Load BMP,JPEG,PNG,TGA
Save and Load AVI (without audio)
There is also a commerical version with more features (1,995 yen, roughly 21 USD).
